CKNW Kids' Fund

Since 1944, the CKNW Kids’ Fund has been making a lasting difference in the lives of children across British Columbia. What began as a small gesture from a Vancouver radio station buying holiday gifts for local orphans grew into a cherished community tradition.

Today, the Kids' Fund continues its mission of helping children overcome a wide range of challenges, from medical needs to accessibility support, thanks to the continued generosity of British Columbians.

Now, Tug 6 Coffee Roasters is proud to join that legacy. Through our partnership with the CKNW Kids’ Fund, every bag of Tug 6 Coffee you enjoy helps support children in need. For every bag sold, we donate $0.10 directly to the Fund, turning your daily coffee ritual into a simple yet powerful act of kindness.

Through the generosity of hundreds of donors over the years, CKNW Kids' Fund has become one of the major sources of grants for children’s organizations in British Columbia. Often the last resort for many families, they offer support and hope to kids with physical, social, and emotional disabilities.

Events & Funding

Pledge Day

The annual Pledge Day is a highlight for the CKNW Kids' Fund, raising essential funds for children in BC through a live, 14-hour broadcast on 980 CKNW. This event brings together donors, sponsors, volunteers, and families in a powerful display of community generosity.

Thanks to incredible donors, the 47th annual Pledge Day on November 19 raised an amazing $2,570,399.

Pink Shirt Day

Each year on the last Wednesday of February, CKNW Kids' Fund presents Pink Shirt Day, a day dedicated to spreading kindness and standing up against bullying everywhere.

Inspired by students who took a stand, we offer an official t-shirt with 100% of net proceeds funding anti-bullying programs across BC. These programs teach vital lessons in empathy and compassion to support children's healthy self-esteem and promote their overall well-being.

Thanks to supporters, an "Army of Pink" has helped raise close to $2.8 million to create kinder communities.

Picnic At Playland

Originally a special day out to Bowen Island for a small group of kids in 1956, the picnic event has transformed into one of the most beloved events of the year.

For half a century, CKNW Kids' Fund has been able to support over 93,000 elementary and high school aged children with various challenges, including learning difficulties, physical, and/or mental challenges, to experience a fun, worry-free day out that they may not otherwise enjoy.

Now held at Playland in Vancouver, with the help of donors and sponsors, the fund is able to invite over 3,500 children once a year to enjoy the entire park that is reserved just for them.

Take A Swing Golf Tournament

The CKNW Kids’ Fund Take-a-Swing Golf Tournament takes place at the prestigious Vancouver Golf Club. An opportunity to enjoy an incredible day of golf, but also to support BC kids with special needs and their families.

All funds raised at the tournament help fund equipment, therapies, and programs that are crucial to the development and lives of kids with physical, mental and social challenges in our community.
